Memphis Grizzlies: Dillon Brooks Links Present to Future

Swing For the Fences
One of the many unknowns heading into this Memphis Grizzlies season is the fate of their wing rotation. Everything from scouting reports to J.B. Bickerstaff’s Media Day musings suggest that the swing spots (generally shooting guard and small forward — if positions still exist) will remain fluid in composition.
Dillon Brooks will likely be a huge part of putting the “swing” in “swingman.” At a reasonably-athletic 6’6,” Brooks’ natural position is shooting guard. While not particularly long for his size, he possesses the hustle and defensive IQ to keep up with small forwards and some smaller power forwards.
Based on matchups and particular needs, Memphis can get many different niches from their wing rotation; be it defense (Andrew Harrison, Garrett Temple), scoring (MarShon Brooks), shooting (Chandler Parsons, Omri Casspi), or a bit of everything (Kyle Anderson). Brooks likely falls in the Anderson camp, as a player who can contribute in a number of areas.
As such, look for him to be a regular cog in most permutations of Memphis’ lineup. His ability to swing seamlessly between the two- and three-spots should lock him into a large role.
