3 Different Takeaways from Memphis Grizzlies’ Preseason Output
First Takeaway
Brendan Smart: “The Memphis Grizzlies preseason flew by, but with several ups and downs along the way. It did not help that Memphis took on the Houston Rockets twice. The Rockets are a team that makes it tough to judge Memphis’ progression on. They play a very up-tempo style of play.
Outside of the Orlando Magic matchup and the two matchups with Houston, Memphis’ positives are just continued growth as a team. In difficult situations, Memphis did not fold and look at each other to blame. They played on for the full 48 minutes in each game.
Coming into this preseason, the Memphis Grizzlies had a lot of depth at the two-guard spot. After five games of preseason action, the Grizzlies still have little answers at that spot. Memphis went with a lineup that featured Kyle Anderson at that spot against Houston, and while that adds length defensively, it hurts the offense.
MarShon Brooks only logged four minutes in the Grizzlies’ preseason finale on Friday night against Houston. This is weird because I think MarShon is Memphis’ best two-guard in terms of scoring, and could use him as the backup guard. I am not sure what the answer is to why Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff played MarShon Brooks only four minutes, but it did not make much sense. He has been a consistent scoring threat while in a Grizzly uniform.”
