Kyle Anderson has had some struggles to start the year after joining the Memphis Grizzlies this past summer. As he plays in more games, he will continue to get more comfortable with this group of guys.
Kyle Anderson joined the Memphis Grizzlies this past Summer on a 4 year, $37.2 million deal. The Spurs had the option to match but they decided not to do so.
Anderson was welcomed to Memphis by a mixed reaction from the fans and the media. If you look solely at the numbers, this didn’t seem to be a good deal for the Grizzlies to make.
What Anderson brings to the team though is much more. He was thought to be the perfect small forward for the new grit-and-grind era in Memphis.
Anderson was beaten out by Chandler Parsons for the starting job in training camp. He would still have a large role on this team but they felt Parsons ability to score the basketball was good for the starting lineup.
Then again Parsons can never stay healthy and that’s exactly how Anderson would get the starting job after just three games. Even if Parsons comes back soon I wouldn’t expect him to be back in the starting lineup.
It has been a rough stretch for Anderson adjusting to his new role with his teammates. The Grizzlies rotations haven’t been consistent and that can only make things that much more difficult.
He will never be asked to score the ball at a high clip for this team but he still will be a key for this teams success. If he can continue to make plays for others on the offensive end and rebound the ball then the Grizzlies will get exactly what they paid for.
