3 Takeaways From The Memphis Grizzlies Loss In Phoenix
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies were in control for the majority of this game. Miscues on both sides of the ball allowed the Suns to stay in the game and get the victory.
Memphis had their issues on both sides of the floor tonight but despite that, they seemed like they were gonna come away with a victory.
Many things went wrong for the Grizzlies but through all that, they still had some big contributions from a few players.
Both teams had to deal with foul trouble to their star guards as both Mike Conley and Devin Booker both missed large stretches for their respective teams.
The Grizzlies had stretches during this game where they played up to their potential. To often though they didn’t stay focused as it was clear they played down to their opponent.
They got off to a hot start making four of their eight three-pointers in the opening quarter. They did struggle the rest of the way as they made just three in the final three quarters.
Free throw struggles didn’t cost Memphis the game in Utah but it came back to bit them this game. They finished 21-29 from the free-throw line while the Suns made 22-26.
You try not to overreact about a few missed free throws but the Suns were a little bit more efficient and it made a big difference in helping Phoenix get the two-point victory.
The defense had stretches where they shut down the Suns for multiple possessions but they were never able to put them away. A lot of that had to do with the Grizzlies struggles offensively.
They shot a solid 47% from the field but when they needed a big bucket with a chance to really extend the lead they never were able to do so.
There are plenty of negatives to take away from this game but there are also some positives that the Grizzlies can try to build on the rest of the season.
