3 Takeaways From The Memphis Grizzlies Loss In Phoenix
By Chris Kern
Role Players Stepping Up
Despite all the struggles Memphis had they did have a few players who stepped up in a big way. It wasn’t enough to come away with a victory but if it weren’t for these guys stepping up they Grizzlies would’ve had no chance.
Kyle Anderson showed some confidence attacking the basket. He put up a season-high 10 points on five for six shooting. His previous best this season was five points against the Wizards.
MarShon Brooks was another guy who made a big impact. He did miss a couple shots he usually knocks down but he still pitched in with 11 points that they desperately needed.
This was likely his best game of the season on the defensive end. He was doing a better job contesting shooters as well as playing with more effort. The three steals he had is a season-high in the seven games he has played in.

Dillon Brooks is another guy who played his best game of the season. He played with a lot of energy on the defensive end while also putting up a season-high in points.
He had 17 points while shooting 7-10 from the field, he also made two of his three attempts from deep. After one of his layups, he did pick up a technical foul but for someone that plays with so much passion that will happen at times.
That’s not an excuse but that’s just who he is and is part of why he is such a good basketball player.
Then you have Shelvin Mack, the backup point guard who has been making a huge impact all season. The way he is playing it isn’t even fair to call him a role player because he has been fantastic.
He finished this game with a team-high 21 points including multiple big shots in the second half. His three-pointer to put them up three with just a couple minutes left should’ve been a momentum booster.
Multiple guys stepped up for Memphis which is really good to see. If this team is gonna compete for a playoff spot it’s gonna take these guys playing at a high level. They’ll just have to hope Conley and Gasol can be more consistent going forward.
