Memphis Grizzlies: An early look at 2019 NBA Draft prospects

Quentin Grimes
Quentin Grimes is a guy who has all the physical tools. He was the 8th ranked player in ESPN’s 2018 class rankings.
He is only projected to be the 18th pick in the NBADraft.net recent mock draft. Grimes is a guy who will continue to rise and it would be a big surprise if he fell out of the lottery.
His ability to attack the basket is very good, though we didn’t see it a whole lot in the season opener.
What we did see from him the season opener was his three-point shooting. This was thought to be one of his weaknesses but he showed that can hit tough shots from deep.
He made six of the ten three-point shots he took against Michigan State. He might not shoot that many again this season but he was feeling it so he keeps shooting them.
The next few games we should start to see who he really is as a player. It is a good sign to see him have confidence in his shot but we’ll have to wait and see if that lasts.
He finished the game against Michigan State with 21 points and 4 assists. Kansas showed how much they focused on getting the ball inside but coach Self also showed his confidence in his young guards by letting them take shots and make plays for themselves.
Projecting which position Grimes will play in the NBA is interesting to do. He is listed as a shooting guard but he has the skills and the size to play the point, as well as the small forward spot.
Having a guy like him in Memphis would be interesting. They could play him alongside Mike Conley for the next couple years and then depending on how things go, maybe he could move to the point guard spot.
Grimes is a guy who can make plays for himself and others. Make sure to keep an eye on him throughout the rest of the season because he would be a great fit in Memphis.
