Memphis Grizzlies: 5 players performing well so far this season
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies are off to an 8-5 start to the season. They are led by these five players who are all of to a good start to the 2018-19 season.
The Memphis Grizzlies have played on both ends of the floor to start the season. Their depth has been key thus far and has led to them winning a lot of games.
There has been more than just five key players for this team but some injuries or some inconsistent play have kept them from playing to their full potential.
The whole team has had some inconsistent play but some more so than others. Dillon Brooks is a guy who struggled to get into his role early on in the season.
He had started to get comfortable in his backup role but has since suffered an MCL Sprain which will keep him out 6-8 weeks.
So far in the 11 games he has played in he’s averaging 6.8 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He scored a season-high 18 points on the road against Golden State on a night much of his teammates struggled.
The other Brooks on this team, MarShon Brooks has also struggled some to fit in. A lot of that has to do with his inconsistent playing time.
When he has been called upon he has come in and helped offensively as expected but he has also made plays on the defensive end.
His best game of the season was an 18 point performance in the Grizzlies home win over the Phoenix Suns. His role has started to become more clear as he has made either three or four shots from the field in each of the past six games.
Wayne Selden is a guy who has started to become comfortable in his role. He has struggled some defensively but he has gained a lot of confidence in his three-point shooting ability.
In every game this season he has come in and played hard and gotten a few opportunities to score the basketball. His 14 points in the home win against Phoenix was his season high.
He has shot the ball extremely well from deep and hasn’t had a bad game in that department before the game in Milwaukee. He went 0-4 from three-point range which was the first time he didn’t make a three in a game he shot more than one.
Then we have Kyle Anderson, he has made a lot of plays on both ends but has missed many easy shots around the basket.
He has gotten better around the rim but he needs to continue to do so if he’s going to be worth what he’s getting paid.
That said he has been really good defensively and has helped in the rebounding department. He has averaged 6.8 rebounds per game which is the second highest on the team behind Marc Gasol.
All of these guys have played well but the following five guys have made the biggest impact on this team early on in the season.
