Memphis Grizzlies: 5 players performing well so far this season
By Chris Kern
Jaren Jackson Jr
Jaren Jackson Jr has shown flashes of greatness early on. He has struggled in some areas but the future is bright for this young big.
He has made an impact on both ends of the floor but his biggest weakness has been his inability to stay out of foul trouble.
No matter how well you have played it is hard to get into a rhythm if you’re consistently going out of the game with foul trouble.
Another struggle has been his three-point shooting but he has continued to shoot the ball with confidence which is good to see. His percentage from three-point range is just 21.4% though so you’d like to see that improve as the season goes along.
He has shown a lot of skill on the offensive end though. His ability to attack the basket has been a very pleasant surprise.
We knew he had the length to do it but he has been able to take opposing bigs off the dribble and get to the rim and finish in a variety of ways.
He is averaging 11.6 points per game through the first 13 games of his career. He has done that while shooting 46.3% from the field.
For how much he has struggled with foul trouble he has still done a really good job defensively. He is averaging 1.7 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.
His most impactful game was the game against Denver. He finished that game with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 blocks.
He did a little bit of everything that night as he was able to stay out of foul trouble and make a big impact.
His defense on Paul Millsap was fantastic as Millsap was unable to get anything going. He finished the game with just two points on 1-7 shooting.
Jackson has shown everyone what he is capable of in a short amount of time. It’s still early, but it seems like the Grizzlies might have gotten this pick right.
