Memphis Grizzlies: Mike Conley Leads The Way In Win Over Dallas
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies are playing great basketball and they keep on winning. Mike Conley was fantastic leading the Grizzlies to victory.
The Memphis Grizzlies win their fourth straight game and a lot of that has to do with the play of their floor general, Mike Conley.
His shots weren’t falling early this season but he has gotten into a rhythm in recent games. On a night Marc Gasol struggled to hit the open three-point shot it was the exact opposite for Conley.
He had his best shooting game of the season making 7 of the 11 three-pointers he shot. Conley and Gasol have stepped up recently and that’s why Memphis has a four-game winning streak.
He hadn’t made more than four three-pointers in a game so far this season so it was good to see him have a big game.
His three-point percentage coming into this game was a career-worst 31%. We can’t expect seven three’s every night but it’s good to see him continue to build his confidence.
It was a very competitive basketball game throughout but the Grizzlies were able to hit clutch shots to put the game away.
Shelvin Mack didn’t have a big game as he has many times recently but he did hit a big fourth-quarter three as he does seemingly every game.
In fact, none of the backup guards had much of an impact. This might’ve been the worst game, at least offensively, for the backup guard group.
MarShon Brooks went just 1-6 from the field finishing with two points. Wayne Selden also struggled to go just 1-4 with three points.
They did have some impact from the second unit though. JaMychal Green‘s ability to impact the game is being more and more clear. Jaren Jackson Jr. is the future but Green can still contribute.
Green had 12 points and 9 rebounds in 15 minutes of play. He also had three of the Grizzlies five offensive rebounds.
We already expected him to have this impact rebounding the ball but he has made a big impact offensively. He showed his ability to stretch the floor by making two three-pointers.
If he can bring this impact every game he helps solidify this bench unit that is one of the best in the NBA.
Gasol continued his great play with 17 points and 15 rebounds. He made plays on the defensive end as well with four blocks and a steal.
All these guys played well but it was Conley that stole the show. He shot the ball well but he had another complete game.
His presence on offense opens up so many things for the rest of the team. He finished the game with 28 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds.
The Memphis Grizzlies are playing winning basketball led by their two stars. We’ll see if they can continue their winning ways with two games away from home coming up.
