Memphis Grizzlies Need Not to Ponder Mike Conley for John Wall Trade Scenario
The Verdict
All in all, the Memphis Grizzlies have to be intrigued whenever there is a chance to land a big-name All-Star. Being a small-market franchise, these opportunities have been nearly nonexistent for the Grizz unless they are able to sign a former star well beyond their prime years, a la Vince Carter.
The NBA world is beginning to take notice of the 2018-19 Grizzlies, who are tremendously defensive. John Wall fits that stifling description, but it is not head-and-shoulders over the offerings of Mike Conley, especially when comparing long-term contracts.
For now, the Memphis Grizzlies need to stick to their current group, which is proving to be one of the best in the association. With JaMychal Green back in the lineup and Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff becoming more comfortable with his rotations, the sky is the limit.
The next month of games will really define this team and how strong of a contender they will be — if at all — by the time April rolls around. If any moves are made, items such as adding Joakim Noah into the Grizzlies’ 15th roster spot can really solidify a postseason slot for an NBA franchise.
It is always intriguing to leap at opportunities to land big-name superstar players, but Memphis cannot change their identity. This is not Hollywood. Mike Conley is the perfect conductor of the Grizzlies’ game plans and schemes. The best decision is to ride the wave with him at the helm of the ship, alongside his partner-in-crime, Marc Gasol. This current group may become the best in team history yet.
