Defense

The Memphis Grizzlies defense has struggled a little bit in recent games but even during that stretch, they’re still a good defense in comparison to the rest of the league.

They have a defensive rating of 103.7 which is the 3rd highest in the NBA. With some of their offensive struggles, they hang their hat on the defensive end and it has won them a lot of games.

This team has brought back the defensive toughness they have had for the past decade after it went missing last season.

In the current NBA where the offense is the focus, many teams don’t play defense. The Grizzlies have shown in the early part of the season that you can still win a lot of games by being an elite team on that end.

This team doesn’t get out and run in transition so they are forced to get easy baskets in other ways. They do that by getting steals and scoring off of turnovers’

Memphis is 3rd in the NBA at nine steals per game. They get teams out of rhythm on the offensive end by getting steals and getting extra possessions for their offense.

For a Grizzlies team that struggles at times on offense the ability to get extra possessions and to score off of turnovers is key.

They are 6th in the NBA with 19.6 points off turnovers per game. While on the flip side of that they allow just 15.2 points off turnovers which is the 4th lowest in the league.

The Grizzlies are playing hard on the defensive end. They have lost two close games in a row but their defense is one of the reasons to expect a couple of wins very soon.
