Memphis Grizzlies: The Joakim Noah Signing Is Official
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies need another body inside with Joakim Noah needs a team. It took longer than expected but now it is happening.
The Memphis Grizzlies and Joakim Noah have been in talks for months but now those talks are over. Noah is coming to Memphis to join the Grizzlies.
He isn’t the most talented player but he will still have an impact. He is a good defender while also being able to contribute a little bit offensively.
Many people will dislike this signing, but it was the right move for the Grizzlies to make. Marc Gasol won’t hold up for 82 games at his current usage.
It’s not ideal but he is likely gonna need some nights off eventually during this season, the same could be said for Mike Conley as well.
The Grizzlies already have a trustworthy backup point guard in Shelvin Mack while also having Jevon Carter who could be called up from the G-League to play in a backup role.
Many feel that a wing scorer would be a better option though. With Dillon Brooks and Chandler Parsons injured currently Memphis is a bit thin at that spot.
So that was an option but they felt getting another big was the best option for this team. It has become more and more clear they need someone who can get Gasol a little bit extra rest.
He has been doing much more with his minutes than he did last season so he needs even more rest than originally expected. Which is a good thing just something they have to take into account to keep him healthy for a full season.
Noah is our guy and we have to embrace it. He isn’t the most skilled guy but he fits into the grit N’ grind mentality that is coming back in Memphis.
He was a former all-star during his time in Chicago but that was over five years ago and when he was actually healthy.
It’s unreasonable to expect him to play that well, but if he’s healthy, this will be a big pickup for this team going forward.
