Shoot The Three Ball Better

The Grizzlies were one of the best three-point shooting teams in the league to start the season. They have since started to drop off as they were expected to do.

A big part of their early success was the hot starts of newcomers Shelvin Mack and Garrett Temple. They are still shooting the ball pretty well but not like they were to start the season.

They both are still shooting above their career averages. Temple is at 37% while Mack is currently at 41%.

Mack is still shooting 39% from three-point range in December but he was shooting high 40’s earlier in the season so it’s a solid gap. His issues have more been inside on his drives to the basket though.

Temple, on the other hand, has had a big drop off since the month of October. He shot 52% from deep that month before dropping to 32% in November and now down at 31% in October.

His struggles are largely due to his being inefficient away from home. On the road, he is shooting just 32% while he is shooting 44% at home.

They aren’t the only ones who have struggled recently as it’s a team effort but it is an area they need to improve in going forward.

The Grizzlies are now shooting 35.7% from deep which is still 10th best in the league but if they were shooting 36.7% as they were after November that would have them tied for 6th.

It’s a small sample size so no need to overreact about it but they are shooting just 31% from three-point range in their five December games.

This team is struggling in many areas besides shooting the ball. A team that can hit three-pointers is able to cover up some other weaknesses by scoring some extra points.
