6 Players the Memphis Grizzlies Should Target After December 15th
Trevor Ariza
Perhaps the most likely candidate with their name attached to the December 15th qualifying date is none other than Trevor Ariza of the Phoenix Suns.
Ariza has made presence known in the NBA via key defensive plays, especially in critical games. To this day, he remains a formidable “three-and-D” catalyst, but the large one-year contract he signed in the offseason is the real kicker.
Ariza is owed $15 million this offseason. It would truly only make sense for the Memphis Grizzlies to get involved with the Suns if they would be able to offload the remainder of Chandler Parsons‘ max deal.
Over the past week, it sounds as if the Suns could have something lined up for Trevor Ariza to move him back to a championship-contending club.
It makes sense for Ariza to join a contending team, but for that reason, he should not have left the Houston Rockets in the first place. He obviously wanted to bite the larger money when the offer was on the table, but now he is not enjoying his time being with the NBA’s worst team.
Some may question if the 33-year-old swingman still has “it.” After Memphis faced Phoenix on November 4th, the answer is “yes.” Ariza tallied 16 points (5/10 shooting), nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 39 minutes.
This production line is similar to something Grizz Nation typically sees from Kyle Anderson or Dillon Brooks, but Ariza brings a high level of veteran experience to the table. Plus, almost anything in return for Parsons would be solid at this point.
It would be nice to add Trevor Ariza to the Memphis Grizzlies’ current roster because he fits the mold of a Grizzly and would satisfy multiple needs, but the dollars do not make enough sense — at least not in 2018-19. This would be more realistic if the Grizz had more financial flexibility.
