The Memphis Grizzlies were jockeying for position in late-night NBA trade rumors, but the plan ultimately failed. Dillon Brooks headed to social media after Friday’s loss to the Miami Heat.
Though Dillon Brooks is currently sidelined for injury recovery, his name is prevalent in NBA trade rumors involving the Memphis Grizzlies.
Outside of the ongoing Markelle Fultz drama in Philadelphia, the trade front as been relatively quite around the association in recent weeks.
The NBA trade rumors began to fly during the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies’ home meeting versus the Miami Heat on Friday, and though Memphis was included as the third team to help facilitate, the rumors suggested multiple players would be moved from the Grizzlies’ roster.
That is when things became rather hairy. Wayne Selden‘s name remained consistent and Kelly Oubre of the Washington Wizards was the sole incoming name for the Grizzlies’ end. Yet, was it Dillon Brooks? Or was it MarShon Brooks?
As the clock struck midnight in Memphis, Tennessee, the answer was neither, but that could change on Saturday. For now, the transaction is “dead,” according to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski. The trade discussions originated due to the December 15th date being the first day in which newly-signed free-agents can be placed into trades.
You cannot make this stuff up. There was a misunderstanding of which Grizzly Brooks would be placed in the three-team trade. The confusion could certainly ruffle the feathers of Dillon and/or MarShon Brooks, but the NBA is a business after all. Furthermore, team chemistry could potentially take a hit if some sort of deal is not submitted for league approval.
Dillon Brooks posted the following message via his personal Twitter account just minutes after the final buzzer.
Being as Dillon is not currenting suiting up for Grizz games, one should assume he was following the trade rumblings as the events were unfolding during the final moments of Memphis’ 100-97 loss to the Miami Heat.
The cryptic message demonstrates Dillon Brooks is sweating this trade, and for obvious reasons. Dillon Brooks — along with all of Grizz Nation — view him as a key component to the franchise’s future. Plus, he would be headed to the league’s worst team in the Phoenix Suns. That is a tough pill to swallow in and of itself.
No reactions and/or comments have yet surfaced from MarShon Brooks or Wayne Selden. Being as the Memphis Grizzlies do not have practice on Saturday, a greater perspective likely will not be available until after today’s meeting against the Houston Rockets.
