Memphis Grizzlies News: Wayne Selden And MarShon Brooks To Chicago For Justin Holiday
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies have finally traded Wayne Selden and MarShon Brooks. They are headed to Chicago with Justin Holiday coming to Memphis.
Wayne Selden and MarShon Brooks were nearly traded to the Phoenix Suns a couple of weeks ago in a deal that would’ve brought Kelly Oubre to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Now they’re on their way to Chicago in exchange for Justin Holiday. Them being traded was bound to happen eventually and now their time in Memphis is over.
They both had some solid moments with the Grizzlies but they couldn’t seem to fit in this season and now they both get a fresh start.
While on the flip side of that Holiday was looking like he might be one of the hot trade targets at the deadline but now he is off of the market.
So far this season he is averaging 11.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. He is a good two-way player who will provide a spark for a slumping Grizzlies team.
Memphis has struggled to make three-pointers recently and that is one area that Holiday is sure to make an impact. He is shooting 36% from deep on 7.1 attempts per game.
His role on this team is very much in question though. The Grizzlies didn’t give up two second-round picks just to have him play a few minutes off of the bench.
This trade should put pressure on Garrett Temple to perform better. He has struggled recently and very easily could lose his starting spot soon.
Besides just the addition of Holiday, we have Dillon Brooks starting to play like his normal self. He also should start to take minutes away from Temple.
By trading away Brooks and Selden there will be an open roster there’s an open roster spot. 10-day contracts start on January 5th so they’ll surely be taking a look at some players for that.
This team is nowhere near done making moves. They don’t want to see this season get away from them but even if it did they would be making moves for a completely different reason.
The Memphis Grizzlies need to get out of this slump. Holiday won’t do it by himself but it could be the spark this team needs to get back on track.
