Memphis Grizzlies: Chandler Parsons Deserves One Last Chance
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies signing of Chandler Parsons really set this franchise back. He has still worked hard and deserves a chance to play.
The Memphis Grizzlies keep on losing games while it has been reported that Chandler Parsons is healthy, but they won’t even give him a chance.
This team clearly needs more scoring and while he isn’t an elite scorer by any means he should at least be playing a little bit.
The Grizzlies have been one of the worst teams in the NBA at making three-point shots to go along with being one of the worst teams at defending the three-point line.
They made the recent trade to get Justin Holiday but it will take him time to fit in. The Grizzlies have a completely different offense than the Bulls do so he’ll have to learn how to get the shots he likes.
It is becoming more and more clear the Parsons is begging to get a chance to play. It seems like every day he has a social media post referencing such.

He wants to be out on the floor but he somehow isn’t good enough to get the chance since the team is playing so oh well.
This team was 12-5 and on top of the western conference but since then they’ve lost 16 of the last 22 games to fall to their current record of 18-21.
I can’t imagine Parsons would be any worse than the guys that are out on the floor. He hasn’t been good in Memphis but there still is a reason the Grizzlies have him that huge deal.
In his two seasons in Dallas which was directly prior to coming to Memphis, he averaged 14.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
He wasn’t anywhere near worth the money he got paid but he looked to be that third scorer that the team needed.
He was relatively healthy before coming to Memphis but we all know that hasn’t been the case since he got here.
He played more than 60 games in each of his first five NBA seasons but he has only played a combined 73 games for Memphis.
We can’t expect him to stay healthy for the rest of the season but that’s not necessarily what we need from him. If he’s able to come in and score points to help this team win for even a couple of weeks maybe that is enough to get this team rolling in the right direction.
He is a 38% career three-point shooter and while he has struggled in Memphis he is still shooting 35% for the Grizzlies.
It’s crazy to expect Parsons to turn a corner and be the player he was paid to be. But it is realistic to think that he could be a rotation player on this team.
Having him play as the small ball four could help this team’s offensive production. It won’t answer all of their problems but it should help some.
With his contract, he isn’t going to be traded so they might as well see if he has any production he can bring to the table, if not he can go right back to sitting on the bench.
