Memphis Grizzlies News: Dillon Brooks’ Season Is Over
By Chris Kern
It just keeps getting worse for the Memphis Grizzlies. Dillon Brooks’ season is over as he will undergo season-ending surgery on his toe.
The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Dillon Brooks for the rest of the season. He is expected to be ready for summer workouts though.
He has already missed so much time this season due to injury after he suffered that fluke knee injury earlier this season that caused him to miss 21 games.
After he played all 82 games his rookie season he will finish with just 18 games played during his sophomore campaign.
He had high hopes this season after such a good rookie year but his inconsistent play in his new role kept him from reaching his full potential.
He did show signs though as he had many games where he was dominant including his 19 point performance against the Boston Celtics.
In that game, he was 5-11 from the field including 4-5 from three-point range. He was always aggressive on the offensive end, even when he wasn’t playing his best.
This team is really going to miss him on the court. The toughness he plays with on both ends is something that nobody else on this team has.
Sometimes it leads to stupid fouls on the defensive end or a bad shot on the offensive end but you’ll take those every once in a while when he is making the plays he does for this team.
In the 18 games, he played this season he averaged just 7.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. In a season where he had such high expectations the fans are going to be disappointed.
He has already become a fan favorite and now the team will be without him and as they keep losing games he would’ve continued to get a larger role.
The team can’t sulk they have to move on and a couple of guys will need to step up. Justin Holiday is the main guy who has to get going.
He was brought here to help make three-pointers and he is just 0-3 from deep in his first two games. It’s not just him but he should be one of the main beneficiaries from Brooks not being out there.
It’s been a long stretch for this team and it’s not going to get any easier. Everybody has to put up or shut up if they want to save this season.
