James Johnson

James Johnson is a guy who has already played for the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2013-14 season where he played in 52 games.

During that season he averaged 7.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. One area he has improved since then is his three-point shooting.

During that season he shot 25% on 1.7 attempts per game and now this season he is making 34% of the 2.9 he is attempting per game.

The Miami Heat have been rumored to potentially making a move at a big name free agent in the next couple of years so they would need to clear cap space to do so.

Johnson is a guy who still has 2 years, $30.8 million left on his contract so they may want to get out of that.

His 2nd year is a team option so they may be satisfied with just declining that rather than taking on the additional money that Parsons would bring.

They do have multiple other players on this team who are on unfriendly contracts so maybe if the Grizzlies would be willing to take on another player a deal could happen.

Kelly Olynyk, Dion Waiters, and Tyler Johnson are all players who could be considered. Waiters would be a guy who could help the Grizzlies on the wing offensively and could fit with the team long-term.

It’s not like Johnson hasn’t played well so it will take a good package for Miami to even consider making a deal.

There have been rumors in the past which leads me to believe that they would at least consider it if the Grizzlies have enough other pieces to entice them.

This deal is a longshot as is every move mentioned in this article if the Grizzlies keep losing they could become desperate enough to add pieces the Heat would like as they make their playoff push.
