Memphis Grizzlies: 3 Takeaways From The Road Loss Against The Boston Celtics
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies came into Boston needing to right the ship to save their season. They played well for some of the game but their issues were prevalent in what was another loss.
The Memphis Grizzlies looked a lot better than they have in recent games but it wasn’t enough. There aren’t moral victories in this league either, this team may have played pretty well in this game but this is still a lottery bound team.
Despite getting quality performances from almost everybody they weren’t able to pull it off. Some inconsistent play on both ends of the floor haunted this team yet again.
They made up for it by shooting the ball well from behind the three-point line where they made 16-35. Making shots from beyond the arc is always a point of emphasis for them but so is defending the three-point line.
They struggled in that department which seems to be the case every night. The Celtics made 17-38 shots from deep, led by Marcus Smart going 6-8.
Marc Gasol had a double-double without points in this game. He finished with 12 assists, 11 rebounds, but just 4 points. He was just 1-10 from the floor which the Grizzlies desperately needed.
His assists and rebounding still had a big impact on this game but if he were able to knock down a couple of these other shots it could’ve really helped this offense.
Jaren Jackson Jr. had a good game as well finishing with 23 points and 4 rebounds. He went 8-16 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range. His two three-pointers were made in the final 20 seconds once the game was out of reach but nonetheless it was a solid performance for the rookie.
One area that was a bit odd and concerning was the fact that Jevon Carter played just two minutes. The players who played ahead of him very much had good games but you would still like to see Carter get at least a few more minutes of action.
The Grizzlies have struggled to defend opposing star players recently. On Monday they allowed James Harden to score 57 points and then in this game Kyrie Irving had 38 points.
The Grizzlies are a mess right now there’s no denying that, but there are still some positives to take away from tonight’s game.
