Trade Scenario Three

In retaining the trend of a smaller deal to keep the Indiana Pacers’ core structure together, they should ask the Memphis Grizzlies for some family ties. That is, Indy would be trading for Justin Holiday, and therefore he could team up with youngest brother Aaron in the backcourt.

Memphis was able to trade two disgruntled players for Justin Holiday from the Chicago Bulls just last month, but the addition has not paid any dividends. The Grizzlies’ system has not been favorable for Justin, and his few weeks of audition time are coming to a close with the NBA Trade Deadline standing just two weeks away.

Justin will hit NBA Free-Agency this summer, so his contract is already expriring. Still, Memphis acquired him thinking they can deal him at the deadline fairly easily if the experiment was not successful. As things have turned out, it indeed has not been successful.

Justin Holiday was a solid three-point threat for the Bulls and he brought a lot of tools to the table. He is a guy that could make a positive impact off the bench for the Pacers, especially considering their strong ball movement (Indiana is seventh in assists per game with 25.9 per game). Catch-and-shoot is the game he wants to play.

In order for a deal to get done between the Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies, two cheap, end-of-the-bench youngsters can sign, seal, and deliver an agreement. One important item to note is that Justin Holiday can only be traded by himself, and cannot be paired with another Grizzly in any transaction this season.
