NBA Trade Rumors: Raptors Offer The Memphis Grizzlies Kyle Lowry, Jonas Valanciunas For Mike Conley, Marc Gasol
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies NBA Trade Rumors continue to come up. This one features the Raptors looking to acquire Mike Conley and Marc Gasol, and they have offered their all-star guard Kyle Lowry in hopes of doing so.
This may be one of the most surprising NBA trade rumors from around the league in the past week. The Memphis Grizzlies did decline as it isn’t nearly enough in return. They aren’t going to trade Mike Conley and Marc Gasol without a young player and pick(s) coming back to Memphis.
That doesn’t mean this is a deal that can’t happen but as it stands Memphis declined the original offer of Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valancunias. They want OG Anunoby in this deal and that is completely reasonable.
At the moment the Toronto Raptors seem like they don’t want to give him up but if that’s what it will take to get this deal done then they may consider it. Lowry started his career in Memphis so it would be fun to see him back in a Grizzlies uniform though it seems very unlikely at the moment.
If Toronto doesn’t want to include Anunoby they could include a package of picks as well as other young players if they wanted. Malachi Richardson has struggled to get going but he had a really good college career at Syracuse so he could still turn it around.
We also have a couple of guys who are in their mid 20’s who Memphis could pursue. Fred Van Vleet and Norman Powell are good players and could succeed in a larger role with the Grizzlies.
From the Raptors side, this may not seem like it makes sense but Gasol is a big upgrade at the center spot and Conley has probably outplayed Lowry this season though that is very much up for debate. The Conley/Gasol duo has been much better than Lowry/Valancunias this season though.
While it seems unlikely the Raptors will offer the assets required to get this deal done it’s still fun to think about what would happen if these teams did make this trade. Being able to watch Conley and Gasol compete for a championship would be a lot of fun even though it isn’t in Memphis.
At the moment these teams are a ways away from making a deal but we all know it can change quickly. As soon as the Raptors become willing to include Anunoby a deal can happen very quickly.
We shouldn’t expect Toronto to make a big package though. With what teams like Utah and Detroit are currently offering it’s going to be tough for them to match that.
This is probably just a simple offer to see how far off these two teams are from a potential deal. The Grizzlies are just trying to gauge the value for their stars to perhaps raise the value so they can get more from other teams.
The Raptors are now one of many teams to keep an eye on as potential landing spots for the Grizzlies star players and we should expect a crazy next couple of days. We can still expect to see new NBA trade rumors to emerge before Thursday’s deadline.
The Memphis Grizzlies will make a trade at the deadline, whether its with Toronto or somebody else they will make moves. Enjoy Tuesday night’s game against Minnesota because big changes are coming.
