NBA Trade Rumors: Predicting Moves By Memphis Grizzlies Prior to NBA Trade Deadline
Take Three
Chance of Trade: 60%
Christian Dudley: “With details arriving on Wednesday evening of the Memphis Grizzlies mulling over the idea of waiting until June to deal Mike Conley, it is looking as if the Front Office has sucked the life out of all trade offers they have received on the point guard in recent weeks.
If Conley is moved ahead of Thursday’s NBA Trade Deadline, it appears as if they will choose between trade offers placed on their desk by the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons. With Mike hinting at wanting an Eastern Conference destination, the Pistons would be the result.
Still, I have a hunch that the Grizzlies will hold on tight to Mike Conley in hopes of later receiving two first round picks for him — someway, somehow. I believe it would have already been a done deal if one or two first rounders were offered up, but they cannot quite receive an offer of pick(s) plus young prospect while making salaries match to make it a feasible deal.

With that being said, I do not see Marc Gasol remaining on the roster after the NBA Trade Deadline. His number has already been removed from his locker. His belongings have been packed. He sat out Tuesday’s home game and did not travel with the Memphis Grizzlies to Oklahoma City on Wednesday. At this point, some type of deal with the Charlotte Hornets will have to be made.
Additionally, one or a combination of Garrett Temple, JaMychal Green, and Justin Holiday should also be traded. Though these guys have been contributors for Memphis, especially as of late, their expiring contracts could land a prospect or future Draft picks, which is exactly what the Grizzlies are wanting and needing for this impending rebuild project.
Despite the incompetence demonstrated by the Grizzlies’ Front Office in the past 12 months regarding failed trade attempts, I firmly believe that at least one deal will be made rather than not at all.
The Memphis Grizzlies want value in return, but they are not seeing that they having been over-valuing their players. When it becomes do or die at the deadline, hopefully they come to their senses and do not become greedy any longer for their players. They have rattled emotions among their players and the fan base far too much for them to have nothing to show for it all beyond the 3:00 PM Eastern Time deadline.
