The Memphis Grizzlies had to make another move as they had one too many players. They have decided to waive Omri Casspi to make room for the newcomers.
The Memphis Grizzlies brought in a lot of skilled players but it did put them at one too many players on their roster. That forced them to make a move and they have decided to waive Omri Casspi.
One more order of business post-trade deadline. The @memgrizz are releasing Omri Casspi to get roster down to NBA limit of 15. Casspi has been sidelined with a knee injury and return this season wasn't guaranteed.

This decision had to be made since they had too many players on their roster. Some speculated Bruno Caboclo could be an option but the Grizzlies have made the right decision.
Casspi may be the better player but he isn’t a part of the future in Memphis. Waiving him and keeping Cabolco and the other young guys who may have been considered is the right move.
Casspi also could become an option for a handful of teams in the buyout market. So many teams have opened up roster spots for guys who get bought out. He isn’t a top name in that but for teams that don’t get their top targets then he could be a solid backup plan. His health is a concern though so it also is very possible he isn’t signed at all.
It’s tough to get a read on all the moves they made today but we’ll just have to wait and see. This team will be much more competitive the rest of the season than we originally thought.
They didn’t get the future assets that they were wanting but these moves will help them stay afloat and keep the fans excited about watching games.
They can definitely revisit acquiring future assets this summer if they would like. It’ll be interesting to see how things work in Memphis going forward and while they made some decent moves today they still have a lot of work to do to build the future of this team.
