The Grizzlies agreed to trade Shelvin Mack to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Tyler Dorsey. Is a young guard on an expiring contract who will need to prove himself if he wants to stay in Memphis long-term.

Dorsey was selected with the 41st pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Oregon. He was teammates with Dillon Brooks there where they led the Ducks to a Final Four appearance.

The Grizzlies have already shown how much they value Brooks so bringing in his college teammate is sure to make him happy.

Dorsey hasn’t done much in the NBA so far but he can still turn it around for sure as he is just 22 years old. So far in his career, he has played in 83 games in which he averaged six points per game.

His role was much larger last season though which probably played a part in them making this deal. It’s going to be tough for him to find a larger role in Memphis this season though so it’s possible that they will have an interest in re-signing him this summer.

He has the versatility to play both guards spot as he played point guard in college but at 6’5″ he is more than capable of playing the shooting guard spot as he has many times with the Hawks.

We hope he can find a role in Memphis as they really don’t have that many young players. The Grizzlies had no intention of bringing Mack back next season so this deal was worth the risk. Even if Dorsey doesn’t come back this season it’s a good trade because they took a chance on a young guard.
