Memphis Grizzlies: Breaking Down The Players Acquired At The NBA Trade Deadline
By Chris Kern
Delon Wright
Delon Wright has been a good backup guard in his career. He will have a chance to be in a similar spot with the Grizzlies for the foreseeable future.
He hasn’t been the most effective player and he is 26 years old so many fans will question what he can bring to the table. The team won’t ask him to play big minutes but if he can play 15-20 minutes off the bench that will be more than enough to make a big impact.
So far this season in 49 games he has started two while averaging 18.3 minutes per game. The Grizzlies brought in a lot of guys who will compete for minutes so he could see that number go down a bit the rest of this season.
He is averaging 6.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. He does a little bit of everything on the floor and that is definitely something he can use to his advantage. His 0.9 steals per game could be something that is put to use in Memphis.
For his 6.9 points per game, he is making 43% of his shots from the floor including 33% from three-point range. In his career, he is making 35% of his three-point shots so he should be a big help in that area.
It will be interesting to see how he fits in long-term as we have already seen the impact Jevon Carter has made. Carter’s offensive game is very limited and while he certainly will improve it will be interesting to see how they make it work. With the way the NBA is going, they certainly are capable of playing alongside each other.
Wright is a restricted free agent this summer so we’ll have to see how that turns out. Memphis wouldn’t have made this deal if they didn’t plan on matching any offer he may get.
The Grizzlies have a lot of options to go with and they’ll need to make some decisions going this summer as they have a lot of quality players who may want a larger role than they will have these final 26 games.
