Avery Bradley

Bradley has gone almost unspoken for in recent trade talks but he certainly won’t play like it. He is an excellent defender and has equal value in the locker room as a guy who quietly does his job while leading by example.

His effort and energy are contagious and he needs to help show this young group how to establish a winning foundation. Avery has also become a much better offensive player.

His current stat line for this season wouldn’t tell you that as he only averages eight points on 38% from the field along with roughly three rebounds and two assists per game but his career stat line is much better.

For his career, he averages 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists per game with All-NBA defense so both Wright and Bradley are essentially a double down on defense from Memphis to convey this year’s pick as Chris Wallace stated the team’s intentions for the rest of this season.

Bradley is here to help achieve said goal though personally, I see this as the Grizzlies not having confidence in the draft pick they are currently positioned to keep.

If the pick was currently positioned in the late lottery or at least outside of the top eight picks maybe it makes more sense to approach it that way, but that’s not the case. Instead of tanking harder to make the pick work the team wants to gamble on something that caused them to fall apart, to begin with, which is win games.

This team is much more likely to lose than win at this point, so going against that sounds like a recipe for disaster. Wallace has said publicly the Grizzlies want to punt their 2019 pick to the Boston Celtics now rather than risk losing the 2021 pick in what is said to be a super stacked draft. What happens if we continue to lose like we are currently and keep the pick?

Is the front office already admitting fear of blowing this pick if forced to keep it? Some say no it’s more so the lack of depth outside the three prospects in the 2019 draft class but guys like Cam Reddish, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Nassir Little, Romeo Langford, Jontay Porter, and Bol Bol will have something to say about that.

Point is in almost every draft there is always a guy who slipped through the cracks and becomes a better pro than most of those guys were drafted high in the lottery. I would bet my kidney this draft will produce some dark horses as well.

A lot of guys in this draft no question have the potential to fit that term. Maybe we just need new front office guys who can approach it that way? Being that’s likely not happening all we can do is put the best options out there and hope it works out that way and leads to a lot of success for our Memphis Grizzlies.
