Marc Gasol’s Top Moments With The Memphis Grizzlies
By Chris Kern
Game Winner Vs The Spurs
Chris Kern: The Grizzlies have had so many good matchups with the San Antonio Spurs and this is at the top of that list. It was an amazing all-around game that had a great finish capped by Gasol’s game-winner with just 0.7 seconds left to go in overtime.
This was a pivotal game in a competitive series that had many noteworthy moments. After game two we had David Fizdale‘s “take that for data” rant that led to him getting a big fine.
This was game four of the series with Memphis looking to tie up the series at two apiece before they headed back to San Antonio for what would be a pivotal game five.
This game was a classic even before the game-winner. It was an intense battle between Mike Conley and Kawhi Leonard. Conley finished with 35 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists, while Leonard had 43 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.
Those two were the headliners in this game but it was Gasol who stole the show at the end with his game-winning shot in overtime.
The Grizzlies almost lost this game in regulation after the blew a 10 point lead as they allowed an 18-5 run as they fell behind 91-88 with just a couple of minutes remaining. Conley hit a mid-range jump shot with four seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to force overtime otherwise we would’ve never seen this great Gasol shot.
In overtime, the Spurs almost had a good comeback as well. They were down four points with 30 seconds left but back-to-back three-pointers by Leonard tied the game up with just 12 seconds left to go and that’s when we saw Gasol go to work.
He’s had some other game-winners in his career but this being in the playoffs and against the Spurs made it a little bit special. He finished this game with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
