NBA Draft: 3 Factors Leading to Ja Morant Jump-Starting Memphis Grizzlies’ Rebuild
The Memphis Grizzlies may have a chance to select Murray State star Ja Morant in this year’s NBA Draft, which would jump-start their rebuild.
The Memphis Grizzlies want to push themselves out of the top-eight in this year’s NBA Draft so that the first-round pick they owe to the Boston Celtics will convey. However, the Front Office may not realize Ja Morant is the type of talent who can bring the painful rebuild in Memphis to a quicker end. Plus, the franchise actually has a realistic chance of landing him.
Ja Morant has taken college basketball by the storm with his impressive performances and highlight reel dunks. A late bloomer, Morant is filling the recruiters who overlooked him with remorse as his Draft stock is rising by day.
That does not necessarily mean the Grizzlies, who currently have the sixth-worst record in the league, should not dare to dream. NBA Draft history in Memphis is full of errant choices that has left fans seething. There is no reason to believe this year will be any different.
Not to forget the doubters who argue that Ja Morant’s stats are enhanced due to the lesser competition Murray State is in. In light of all of that, the city of Memphis still has a chance to accommodate Morant’s talents. Allow Beale Street Bears to break it down.
