Chris Clemons

You may recognize the name Chris Clemons but it’s very possible you haven’t seen him play and it’s very possible you won’t get the chance too. He plays for the Campbell Fighting Camels and at the moment they’re not on top of their conference so it will be an uphill battle for them to make the NCAA Tournament.

The highlight reels surrounding him continue to pill up though as he just recently became the 9th player in Division One history to reach 3,000 career points. That number will likely reach ten though very soon as Mike Daum of South Dakota State is just 19 points away.

Clemons is currently at 3,033 points and is just 33 points shy of reaching 6th all time. His goal is to get to 5th place though which is currently held by Doug McDermott. If Campbell can advance deep into the conference tournament then it is very likely he reaches that spot.

If they reach a postseason tournament and win a couple of games there then maybe he can get even higher on the list. He is 216 points behind 2nd place all-time in scoring. It is very unlikely he reaches that mark but with the way he can score the ball I wouldn’t call it impossible.

This season he is averaging 29.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. He contributes everywhere on the floor which shows he can be more than just a scorer. He is pretty much his teams’ whole offense and the majority of his shots come from three-point range.

Clemons is the leading scorer in the country and it isn’t very close at the moment. He is making 37% of his 11.4 three-point attempts. That is a skill that will have to translate to the next level if he wants to be successful. He is just 5’9″ so it will be tough for him to find a role. If he is able to hit shots from deep at a high level he will at least have a chance in the NBA.

He recently dropped 48 points in a home win over Hampton. He went 11-21 from the field including 4-9 from three-point range. The majority of his scoring came from the free-throw line where he went 22-24. He scored the ball in every way while also showing off his athleticism.

It’s very possible he ends up overseas one day but he should get a shot in the G-League. His ability to score the basketball will at least translate down there. I think he’s capable of making the NBA as he is also very athletic but whenever you’re that height it’s going to be tough.

This guy can ball so if he’s available to be picked up the Hustle should consider it. He should also be an option for the Summer League as well as training camp. This dude deserves a chance to make it in this league and if the Grizzlies don’t give it to him then somebody else will.
