As LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers look to build momentum as the season winds down, the Memphis Grizzlies could alter their postseason chances on Monday.
The Memphis Grizzlies (23-38) have the LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers (29-30) next on their season schedule. One of the hottest headlines in the NBA (post-All-Star break) surrounds James and his team’s push for the postseason.
It is important to note that LeBron James has only missed the NBA Playoffs twice in his career, which happened to be first two seasons of his now 16-season career. His Lakers currently sit in the 10th spot of the NBA’s Western Conference standings, equivalent to 3.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff position.
Time is running out for teams pushing ahead to leapfrog others in the standings as there are approximately 20 regular season games remaining for all NBA franchises heading into Monday’s slate of action.
Just ask the Memphis Grizzlies. They, too, are attempting to collect as many wins as possible before their 82-game schedule reaches completion. You should just refer to them as the “Convey Squad” now since General Manager Chris Wallace has publicly stated the team’s stance in wanting to win now to convey this year’s first-round NBA Draft pick to the Boston Celtics.
This will create a tight matchup between two West teams that are sitting outside of the playoff picture. Though the Grizzlies are all but eliminated from playoff contention, they are still making games close regardless of their latest injury report. They are not backing down no matter who the opponent may be.
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers need every win they can get. This one is a must-win for them. While some may think this one will be an easy W for the L.A. guys, think again. The Memphis Grizzlies will not slouch on Monday evening. Beale Street Bears presents three keys to foiling the Lakers’ playoff push.
