The Memphis Grizzlies fanbase has gained a lot of new fans over the past few months. Since the arrival of Jevon Carter many West Virginia fans have been attending games to support their former player.

The West Virginia faithful continue to support their beloved Jevon Carter during his rookie season with the Memphis Grizzlies. They continue to attend games in large numbers to support him, including some games where he didn’t play at all.

Carter has had an up and down rookie season. He has made an impact when on the defensive end of the floor but he has struggled to hit shots consistently on the offensive end. His playing time has also been very inconsistent so it has been hard for him to get into a rhythm.

Through his first 26 games, his numbers aren’t very good. He is averaging just 2.8 points, 1.7 assists, and 1.3 rebounds per game. He is known for his defense so you aren’t over considered with those numbers but his percentages have to concern you.

His offensive efficiency hasn’t been good at all as he is shooting just 24% from the field, including 23% from three-point range. For an NBA point guard that isn’t going to cut it no matter how good you are on the defensive end of the floor.

That’s why his role has been very inconsistent this season. Sure he has provided a spark when he’s been on the floor but at the end of the day you have to be able to produce and he hasn’t been doing so.

We saw Shelvin Mack dominate the backup point guard role at the beginning of the season and now Delon Wright is currently taking all of those minutes. Carter will continue to get minutes off and on the rest of the season but that hasn’t stopped fans from supporting him.

Everywhere the Grizzlies travel on the East coast we see a large group of West Virginia basketball fans attending to show their support for Jevon Carter. There’s probably similar instances like this with other fanbases but how these West Virginia fans support Carter is special, they truly are some of the best fans in the game.

A lot of fans went to support Carter in his game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and he didn’t even play. He has played in a lot of games recently so they probably expected him to play some but it doesn’t matter to them.

Carter led the Mountaineers to a lot of success during his college career and the fans are very grateful for it. What’s also very cool about it is that he is willing to stay and chat with them and sign autographs afterward.

Having a huge group of fans waiting for you on the road is very rare and for a rookie who barely plays. Jevon Carter plays with passion and Grizzlies fans are already loving him for it.

The city of Memphis and their fans will continue to support Carter more and more as long as he stays with the Grizzlies. West Virginia fans are truly some of the best there is, hopefully, one day the Grizzlies support at the same level as the Mountaineer faithful.
