The Memphis Grizzlies have struggled to get anything out of Chandler Parsons the past couple of years. It’s just one game but we’re glad to see him have a positive impact.

The Memphis Grizzlies lost on the road against the Washington Wizards but there are still positives to take away from that game. One of those is the all-around good performance from Chandler Parsons.

It’s just one game but when it comes to his play you have to look on the bright side of things. In his first 83 games with the team, he is averaging just 6.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. That is nowhere near someone who is worthy of a max contract.

The Wizards won this game 135-128 led by a huge 40 points from Bradley Beal. Memphis really struggled to defend the three-point line just as they have for much of this season. Mike Conley had a good game for the Grizzlies finishing with 28 points and 12 assists.

Parsons returned to Memphis a couple of weeks ago and he has been inconsistent when he’s been on the floor. For someone who has missed that much time that is exactly what you would expect. He has struggled on both ends of the floor largely due to him still getting his legs back underneath him.

I’m sure he was working out when he was away from the team but getting back into game shape is completely different. That is true for any player and then when you take into account all the injuries Parsons has dealt with which makes it even more difficult for him.

It’s just one game but he showed he can still be a valuable player on this team. Not saying he will ever live up to his salary but he is more than capable of being a solid rotation player. If he can just move past all the pressure of that big contract and play then he can help this team going forward.

In this game, Parsons did a little bit of everything. He finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, He showed he can still impact the game in a variety of ways. This was by far his best game fo the season as he hadn’t even scored more than five points in a game since he returned to the team.

He had not been shooting the ball well at all coming into this game. Through his first 13 games of the season, he had been making just 29% of his shots including just 23% from three-point range. A lot of that had to do with him getting his legs back underneath him as you could tell he was struggling with that due to many jump shots coming up short.

In this game, he went 6-10 from the field including 2-6 from three-point range. That is the most shots he has made in a game all season surpassing his 4-6 performance in the home opening win over the Atlanta Hawks.

He still has a long ways to go but we need to continue to support him. His struggles will continue but if he can start to put more games like this together then he has a chance to get back to a solid player. It’ll continue to be tough for him, but we’re all glad to see Parsons put together a good performance.
