Memphis Grizzlies: How Potential NBA Draft Targets Fared In The First Weekend Of The NCAA Tournament
By Chris Kern
RJ Barrett
RJ Barrett is a dominating player who has shined all season long and he continued that through his first two NCAA Tournament games. He got it started with a good win over 16th seeded North Dakota State in the first round.
He filled up the stat sheet in that game just as he has throughout the season. Many people question his shot selection, but he has shown the ability to hit tough shots from anywhere on the floor.
Barrett had a huge game against North Dakota State as he finished with 26 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 assists. He is so dominant on the offensive end and that will translate to the next level. His ability to make plays for himself and others makes him a sure-fire top-five pick.
Duke really struggled against UCF and Barrett was not nearly as effective as he normally is. He finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists. It was a tough game for many Blue Devils so I wouldn’t hold much against him for this performance.
Barrett will have to be a whole lot better if Duke wants to win a national championship. They will be more prepared next week for Virginia Tech as they have already played them during ACC play. Look for him to be more aggressive getting to the basket in that game and however long they keep playing.
