With seven games remaining in the 2018-19 NBA season, the Memphis Grizzlies are finally giving sharpshooter Dusty Hannahs a 10-day audition.

There remains just seven regular season games on the Memphis Grizzlies‘ 2018-19 NBA season schedule, which will take place over the next 12 days. That is just enough time for the Grizzlies to test the waters on Dusty Hannahs of the G-League‘s Memphis Hustle.

On Saturday — less than 24 hours after the Hustle saw their first ever playoff run come to a close  — the Grizzlies signed Hannahs to a 10-day contract via a disabled player hardship exception granted by the NBA’s league office. This 10-day scenario was a recommendation in which Beale Street Bears discussed in early-January.

Dusty Hannahs has been an intriguing G-League prospect despite not owning a starting role with the Memphis Hustle. He has been a total spark plug off the bench, serving as the Memphis Hustle’s Sixth Man. Hannahs has produced 14.5 points in 25.6 minutes per game on 47.7% shooting accuracy from the field, including 41.3% from outside as a 6’3″ guard.

Talk about unlimited range. Hannahs can drill three-point shots from seemingly anywhere on the floor. He has a smooth, quick shooting form and release. He is a crafty player on offense in general. Plus, he has built chemistry this season with Grizzlies-turned-Hustle members in Jevon Carter, Ivan Rabb, Tyler Dorsey, and Julian Washburn.

Though there is only a few games remaining in the Memphis Grizzlies’ season, Dusty Hannahs is a player that could potentially help them next season, too. In 2018-19, the Grizzlies rank last in team scoring, 28th in three-point percentage, 21st in bench scoring, and 18th in assists per game. These items are key components whiched have knocked them into the NBA’s bottom-eight heading into the month of April.

Memphis needs guys that can enter the game and provide a scoring boost, especially from long-range. This will help spread the defense and make room for opportunities inside of the arc, freeing double-team coverage from a guy such as double-double machine Jonas Valanciunas.

All season long, the Memphis Grizzlies have been searching for a go-to scoring threat off the pine. MarShon Brooks did not pan out for them. Neither did Wayne Selden. Plus, injuries have hindered their efforts in looking elsewhere amongst their current group of guys on the roster.

Dusty Hannahs could very well find fit with the Grizzlies as his potential contributions are exactly what is needed in Memphis. His flame-throwing ability from beyond the arc should make the transition from the G-League to the NBA. With such a deficiency in the scoring and shooting departments, Hannahs will have the green light to succeed with the Grizz.
