NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 1.0
By Chris Kern
You may notice that Tyler Herro makes it already the third Kentucky player on this mock draft. They are a school full of talent, but we’re generally used to seeing them in the lottery not later on in the first round. That doesn’t mean these guys aren’t good players, they just don’t have the same potential that those other players did.
Herro had some ups and downs during his freshman season at Kentucky, but he really came on late in the season as he showed himself to be a very good player on both ends of the floor. It isn’t set in stone he will go pro, but considering he went to Kentucky and how well he played to end the season I would be surprised if he returned to school.
This past season he averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Those numbers don’t jump off the chart, but this was a very balanced Kentucky team that relied on team ball rather than focusing on their stars.
His ability to shoot the ball isn’t in question, but he did make just 36% of his shots this season so he will need to at least keep that percentage as he goes to the next level. He also showed himself to be an elite defender as he shot down three-point sharpshooter Fletcher McGee in their second round matchup, holding him to just eight points on 4-17 shooting, including an NCAA record 0-12 from three-point range.
The Indiana Pacers have a lot of question marks surrounding their roster going into next season so adding a quality young guard will benefit them greatly. With so many free agents and Victor Oladipo‘s health in question, this would be a very good pick for them to make.
