NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 1.0
By Chris Kern
The Detroit Pistons need a lot of guard help. They have a dominant duo inside with Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond, but they haven’t come together as a full team as they were expected to do. Drafting Kevin Porter Jr. would be a good selection for them.
Porter Jr. is a guy who could come in and contribute off the bench some for a team that will be back in the playoff picture next season. He does have some weaknesses that may keep him from securing an everyday role right away.
During his lone season at USC he averaged 9.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He did play in just 21 games due to injuries and other issues as well. He didn’t have the season he was expecting to, but he still showed his potential at times. His 52% shooting from the free-throw line won’t cut it, but his 41% shooting from three-point range shows he is a good shooter so he will need to just put in the time required to improve.
The Pistons may not be willing to draft someone who won’t make a big impact right away. They do have some solid players on their roster, but the wing spot is their weak spot for sure. If they have a prospect they like who can make an impact right away they certainly will draft them, but expect Porter Jr. to be considered if he is available.
