NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 1.0
By Chris Kern
De’Andre Hunter is a very exciting prospect who improved in nearly every way from his freshman season. He isn’t the big name prospect that most of these guys in the lottery are, but he has all the tools to be successful on both ends of the floor at the next level.
During his sophomore season, he averaged 14.9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. He won’t ever be a guy who lights up the stat sheet as he just isn’t that kind of player. One of the reasons he doesn’t in college is the system he plays in at Virginia. It is very successful for them, but the players won’t ever get the recognition they deserve.
He impacts the game in so many ways, but he does have some areas he needs to improve in especially on the offensive end. He can score the ball inside, but when he’s going up against NBA wings he will need to develop better ball handling to have success. His ability to score in other ways will help, but he needs to be able to get his own shots more as well.
With the uncertainty surrounding John Wall going forward, it is possible that the Washington Wizards opt to draft a guard here rather than Hunter. The recent firing of Ernie Grunfeld will change the direction they are going so we’ll have to wait and see what they decide.
