NBA Draft 2019: Mock Draft 1.0
By Chris Kern
Coby White is a very exciting guard who has really impressed during his freshman season at North Carolina. He can score the ball in so many ways and he has the size needed to become a star at the next level.
During this past season at North Carolina, he played extremely well as he averaged 16.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game. This was a team full of veterans leading the way, but it was White who was the difference maker in them getting a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Just a few years ago some may say his 6’5″ frame is too small to play the shooting guard spot, but that is not the case anymore. I still personally believe he can even play the point guard spot as he did in college. Obviously, it is much more difficult, but we have seen many guys who were supposed to be shooting guards become stars at the point guard position.
The New Orleans Pelicans may be a weird fit with Elfrid Payton and Jrue Holiday in the backcourt, but they are making big changes this offseason. They just need to get the most talented player and if they feel that is White then that should be the pick. If they have another plan that is fine, but it is extremely hard to predict who will still be on their roster next season.
