Memphis Grizzlies: Delon Wright Picks Up Triple-Double In Road Win Over Dallas
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies continue to build towards the future and Delon Wright is a key part of that. He picked up his first career triple-double to lead Memphis to a road win in Dallas.
The Memphis Grizzlies struggled some early on, but Delon Wright was there to pick up his teammates and lead them to this win. He has played well since joining the team at the trade deadline, but this win over Dallas included his first career triple-double which has to be one of the best games of his career.
The hate will come since it came against lesser competition, but either way, it is very impressive. The way he is able to attack the basket and make plays on both ends of the floor makes him an exciting player. Chris Wallace needs to do whatever it takes this summer to re-sign him.
He was fantastic in this game as he was getting his teammates’ open looks while also getting himself open looks by attacking the basket, as well as hitting jump shots. He finished this game with 26 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds. It took him until late in the fourth quarter to get his 10th rebound, but he would finally get it with just 38 seconds remaining.
His play was very good, but the Grizzlies got good contributions from many other guys which is how they were able to pick up the win. Seven Grizzlies players scored 10+ points which shows how well they played together.
Not all of these guys will be on the team next season, but it’s good to see them playing well. If they aren’t in Memphis, they certainly have done enough to warrant consideration from other NBA teams.
One of the biggest positives was the 16-41 shooting from three-point range. It wasn’t just a couple of guys either as seven different players made a three-pointer. Outside of Tyler Dorsey‘s 1-7, they all were efficient in doing so. Dorsey did a good job driving the ball inside as he still finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds so he still had a good performance.
Justin Holiday was another guy who played well. He has continued to improve from his rocky start early in his Grizzlies stint and this was one of many quality games he has played. He finished with 20 points on 8-13 shooting, including 3-6 from three-point range. His play over the past couple of months has more than warranted consideration to be brought back next season.
All nine guys who played made an impact. Bruno Caboclo and Chandler Parsons both made an impact including them knocking down three shots apiece from three-point range. Jevon Carter was tough on defense as always, but he also knocked down three shots from three-point range as well. Newcomer Tyler Zeller even made an impact in his Grizzlies debut as he finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds.
It was a good win for the Grizzlies and maybe a sign of things to come next season. They have continued to improve over the past couple of months as all the young guys have had some big moments. Delon Wright’s triple-double will be one of the top moments from the Memphis Grizzlies, 2018-19 season.
