The Memphis Grizzlies are in a spot to convey their pick, but it may require them to win their final two games. Here’s a look at the race to convey going into the final two days of the season.

Tuesday night’s games could possibly decide whether or not the Memphis Grizzlies are able to convey their pick in this year’s NBA Draft. A couple of games on Wednesday also will be a factor. With the way things are shaping up currently it’s very possible that conveying the pick could come down to a tiebreaker drawing.

The Grizzlies play at Detroit in a game that is very much needed for the Pistons. They’re battling for a playoff spot and if they want to lock one up they need to pick up this win. Detroit won the first matchup 101-94 on January 2nd.

That game might not be very familiar, but you may remember what took place afterward. After that game, we had the locker room altercation between Garrett Temple and Omri Casspi. Another connection between these teams was the Pistons’ pursuit of Mike Conley prior to the NBA Trade Deadline.

The Grizzlies have changed a lot since then as it is very likely that nobody who played in the first matchup will play in this game. Joakim Noah and Mike Conley are the only two who could possibly play, but it seems unlikely that will happen. That game was one of Conley’s worst games of his career as he played 28 minutes, but scored 0 points on 0-8 shooting.

The Pistons have lost their last four games which includes a loss to the Charlotte Hornets who are just a game behind them in the standings. They don’t have the tiebreaker over Charlotte though so if they want to avoid the possibility of dropping out they will need to win both of their final two games.

The Grizzlies front office will also be scoreboard watching Tuesday night. The Washington Wizards are hosting the Celtics who will be resting the majority of their roster so that is a very winnable game for them. They do have a 32-49 record so Memphis would pass them just by winning their final two games.

The two teams they should be most worried about are the New Orleans Pelicans, and the Dallas Mavericks. The Pelicans host Golden State in a game the Warriors will be resting key players, so there’s a good chance they win that game to improve to 34-48. Dallas hosts Phoenix in a game they should be able to win.

If New Orleans gets to 34 wins that’s when the Grizzlies get in trouble. That would set them up to where they need to win both of their final games just to get a chance at conveying the pick. Dallas also could get to 34 wins, but they play at San Antonio on Wednesday in a game the Spurs should need to improve their playoff seeding so it will be tough for them to win that.

The Pelicans game against the Warriors Tuesday night is the one that fans should be most interested in. It’s very possible we see a tiebreaker anyway, but if they win that game then that will be the best case scenario for them.

Whether the pick gets conveyed or not the Memphis Grizzlies need to be prepared to make big changes this offseason. They have a good roster of talent, but they need to be able to add some more pieces. Big changes are coming to town, whether the pick gets conveyed at all.
