3 Keys to the Memphis Grizzlies Ending the Season Victoriously Versus Golden State
Let It Fly from Deep
Through four games in the month of April, including Tuesday’s 100-93 loss to the Detroit Pistons, the Memphis Grizzlies have made at least 10 three-point shots in each contest. This includes the Grizz nailing totals of 16 and 19 (respectively) in this past weekend’s dual matchup against the Dallas Mavericks.
Memphis is not traditionally known for their three-point shooting, or scoring in general. However, their youthfulness has provided some newfound scoring options. A lot of this has derived from the aforementioned playmaking ability belonging to the Grizzlies’ Delon Wright.
Despite 21 turnovers in Detroit, the Memphis Grizzlies nearly snagged a road victory which could have derailed the Pistons’ playoff hopes. Memphis built their 22-point lead with a barrage of triples, highlighted by three long-range bombs via rookie Jevon Carter.
On Wednesday, the Grizzlies absolutey need to get hot from deep early in the matchup if they want to avoid being swept by the Golden State Warriors. Memphis has been able to keep pace with the Dubs in the previous three meetings of the season until the final quarter arrived. It has been the same case each time. The Grizzlies have become accustomed to losing their hot hands once the fourth quarter starts, resulting in catching Golden State’s dust by the final buzzer.
A shooting match against the Warriors — the NBA’s third-best three-point shooting club at 38.4% — is not ideal, but offense is where Memphis has not been able to match this particular opponent. In recent games, the Grizzlies have found success from beyond the arc, so it is worth following that avenue once again to round out the season. They are currently better than their season-average advertisement of 33.9% from downtown.
In going against Golden State, the Memphis Grizzlies need to go all-in if they truly want to enhace their odds of conveying their 2019 first-round NBA Draft pick. Plus, it would not be a good look to get trounced by the Warriors inside the Grindhouse to end the season. It is Fan Appreciation Night, too, and this fan base deserves a good showing by the new-look Grizzlies. A victory will set the tone for a promising offseason.
