NBA Draft 2019: 3 Prospects Who Could Be Available For The 8th Pick
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies will have the 8th best odds heading into the NBA Draft Lottery. Here are three prospects they should consider if they stay put.
The ideal scenario for the Memphis Grizzlies involves the pick going elsewhere. They would rather it go into the top four or falls outside the top eight so the pick would go to Boston. They won’t know where they’re picking until the NBA Draft Lottery in May.
This is a big offseason for the Grizzlies as the biggest question mark on the roster is the status of Mike Conley. They also have other big changes to make to the front office as well as finding themselves a head coach. If they’re able to get a lucky bounce into the top four, that could go along ways towards building the future of this team.
If they’re able to get into the top four that gives them a chance to land a guy such as Zion Williamson or Ja Morant. While the odds aren’t terrible of that happening we have to be more realistic. The Grizzlies never seem to get lucky with this stuff so we need to prepare for the worst.
This is a franchise that has struggled to make picks throughout their history and if they don’t change that then they will really struggle to build this team going forward. Their 2018 draft seems to be a success with a potential franchise star in Jaren Jackson Jr. to go with a quality guard and fan favorite Jevon Carter.
There are a few different directions the Grizzlies could go with this pick. A lot will have to do with whether or not the plan on trading Mike Conley or not. If they do then maybe they target one of the top point guard prospects, but if they don’t they may look for a wing who can complement the rest of this squad better. They can go many directions, but here are three guys they will consider if they stay put at number eight.
