NBA Draft 2019: 3 Prospects Who Could Be Available For The 8th Pick
By Chris Kern
Cam Reddish
Cam Reddish had a very disappointing freshman season at Duke which is why he has a chance to drop to eight. He came into the season looking like a potential top three pick, but his offensive struggles have dropped him way down draft boards. He still has the potential to be a very good player, but he is more of a project player than the majority of these top guys are.
During his season at Duke, he was in the shadows of R.J. Barrett and Zion Williamson. Those two are superstars who deserve all of the attention, but it seemed as if it would be more of a big three rather than a dynamic duo.
Reddish played in 36 games this season averaging 13.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Those are terrible numbers for a number three option on a college team, but his shooting percentages weren’t as good as they should’ve been.
He shot just 36% this offseason including a 33% mark from three-point range. That is an area he has to improve in if he wants to make it at the next level. He has the potential to be a solid defender, but if he isn’t able to knock down shots consistently then he could become a bust.
The Grizzlies need a wing scorer and he might be the best option at this spot for them. They have Kyle Anderson and Dillon Brooks on the wing who are very good players, but they still need more scoring. If they draft Reddish they will need to be patient though as it could take him some time to fit in.
When Memphis drafted Jaren Jackson Jr. he was supposed to be a project as well though. He quickly turned into a star despite limited college production and maybe Reddish could do the same if he were to get drafted by the Grizzlies.
