Memphis Grizzlies: 5 Potential Landing Spots For Mike Conley
By Chris Kern
The Memphis Grizzlies are making big changes this offseason and trading Mike Conley could be a part of that. Here are five possible landing spots for the star point guard.
The Memphis Grizzlies considered trading Mike Conley prior to the NBA Trade Deadline, but they ultimately decided to hold onto him. He does still have two years left on his deal so he should have plenty of suitors this summer as well.
He is coming off the best season of his career and many playoff teams will consider trading for him. There are at least a few teams in the playoffs that don’t have enough to compete for a championship, and maybe acquiring a star point guard would help them get over the top.
This past season Conley averaged 21.1 points, 6.4 assists,3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game. He does it all for this team while also setting a career-high in scoring. After the all-star break, he took it to another level though as he averaged 25.8 points per game in the 14 games he played in which was the 13th most in the NBA.
Obviously, some of that has to do with playing on a lesser team and getting the opportunity to lead the team by himself, but he was fantastic all season long as well. After Marc Gasol was traded and Jaren Jackson Jr. got hurt he was able to be the focal point of the offense almost every time he was on the floor. Jonas Valanciunas was dominant, but he was still getting adjusted to the Grizzlies system so Conley was still the focus most games.
It’s going to be an exciting offseason for the Grizzlies as big changes are coming. They will be hiring a new coach and general manager soon and then they will have to sit down and decide what the best option is regarding Conley’s future.
