Memphis Grizzlies: 5 Potential Landing Spots For Mike Conley
By Chris Kern
Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz was probably the team most interested in acquiring Mike Conley during the season. They reportedly made multiple offers but were unwilling to meet the Grizzlies demands of multiple first-round picks.
They have a really good team that is currently a contender in the western conference, but Conley could potentially get them over the hump. If they were to make this deal it would form one of the best big three’s in basketball with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert already on the team.
This is a team that plays really well together so they’re not going to just trade for anybody. They want a star who can fit into what they do on both ends of the floor. Ricky Rubio has fit well on this team, but Conley would be an upgrade for sure.
For many team’s it’s hard for them to make it happen because of the money he brings, but for Utah, it would work out perfectly for them. Joe Ingles, Rudy Gobert, and Donovan Mitchell all still have two years remaining on their deal which would make them free agents the same summer as Conley. Mitchell is also on his rookie deal still so they could make the money work for them.
It’s only a two-year commitment to Conley too. If it works they could bring him back, but if not they could let him walk or even try and trade him themselves. If Kevin Durant leaves Golden State then the door would be open for the next team to take over the Western Conference, and this move would very much make Utah a legitimate contender.
Utah has also made it known already that this is a move they will consider making this offseason. They want to continue to improve this team and this is how they can do it. It’s tough for them to attract top free agents so if they want a star they may need to trade for one.
This is a very good team as if so they aren’t going to offer a package that’s out of this world. All they will do is offer the Grizzlies their best offer and if it works great and if it doesn’t that’s fine too. Maybe they will be willing to offer more this summer, but unless they offer two first-round picks, a deal is far from certain.
