Los Angeles Lakers

The Los Angeles Lakers are a very realistic landing spot for Mike Conley. They would rather sign a star in free agency, but with all the drama surrounding the organization that is far from certain. If they want a star they may have to trade for one.

The Lakers do have Lebron James who is still arguably the best player in the game when healthy and they also have a good young core around them. They have guys such as Lonzo Ball and Kyle Kuzma who fit in nicely around star players.

When you add in the talent that they have and the chance to play for the Lakers, that should be an exciting destination for any free agent. They aren’t just targeting any free agent though, they are trying to add a superstar or two to pair with Lebron James.

At the top of their list are Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard. Both these players are tough to read with what they may be doing as they both are competing for championships this season so their seasons likely won’t be over until close to June at least. The Lakers don’t seem to be at the top of either guy’s list, but even if they were I doubt we would know about it.

If signing a free agent doesn’t work out for them then they certainly could trade for one. The ideal candidate is Anthony Davis, but why offer all their young guys plus picks if you’re able to get him the following summer. That was what they went through with Paul George as well though and he ultimately decided to stay with Oklahoma City.

If the Lakers are unable to get any of those guys then Mike Conley could become an option. He is an all-star caliber point guard and has shown he can make an impact off the ball as well so he should be a good fit alongside Lebron James. His ability to hit three-pointers and defend at a high level would help them in areas they struggle in.

The Lakers know they have to get a star to pair with James this summer., He doesn’t have a lot of time left and if they want to win a championship then they need to make it happen soon. So if they strike out on free agents, don’t be surprised to see Mike Conley to LA rumors start up.
