Tyler Dorsey had some big moments with the Memphis Grizzlies this season. He proved his worth and possibly earned a roster spot for next season.

The Memphis Grizzlies took a chance on Tyler Dorsey by trading for him at the trade deadline and he has been impressive during his short time with the team. It has given him a chance at being re-signed or at the very least getting him recognition so he can sign elsewhere if it doesn’t work out in Memphis.

He started his career with the Atlanta Hawks after they selected him with the 41st pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. The Grizzlies traded Shelvin Mack to Atlanta to acquire Dorsey who would be waived shortly thereafter which allowed him to sign with the Charlotte Hornets.

He didn’t have a chance at a large role in Atlanta, but he was able to earn a starting role to end the season in Memphis. There were so many injuries that allowed this to happen, but he also played very well in those games which have made him a player they likely would like to retain.

This season Dorsey played in 21 games with the Grizzlies and he started in 11 of them. He had some moments during his rookie season with the Hawks, but after they drafted young guards Trae Young and Kevin Huerter he never really had a chance at a big role.

In those 21 games, he played in he averaged 9.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game on 43% shooting, including 37% from three-point range. He was inconsistent at times, but he had some big games which showed his potential.

He is only 23 years old and after a strong end to this season, the future is bright for him. It may include an extended stint with the Grizzlies, but he also could end up elsewhere. Here’s a look at his time this season with Memphis and how he can continue to improve throughout the rest of his career.
