The Memphis Grizzlies may have found their next starting point guard in Delon Wright. Here’s a look back at his time with the Grizzlies this season.

Delon Wright had a successful stint with the Grizzlies and could have a chance at an expanded role next season. He is a restricted free agent, but it’s unlikely he would get offered any contract elsewhere that Memphis wouldn’t match.

He played in 26 games for the Grizzlies this season and was playing some of the best basketball of his career. In those games, he averaged 12.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.6 steals. He impacts the game in so many ways and that’s why he has a chance to become a starter.

This is a big offseason for both him and the Grizzlies. He benefited greatly from playing under J.B. Bickerstaff so he’ll likely want to wait and see who the new coach is before he makes his decision. Other players such as Jonas Valanciunas had big moments as well so it’ll be interesting to see if they can all earn key roles for this team going forward.

Injuries played a big role in Wright getting a chance to shine, but he took full advantage of it. It could help him earn a big contract this summer from either the Grizzlies or somewhere else, and he will be worth every penny of it.

He has been a solid backup in Toronto the first few years of his career, but he was stuck behind two very good players in Fred VanVleet and Kyle Lowry. All he needed was an opportunity and now he has a chance to be a starting point guard going forward next season, either in Memphis or somewhere else.
