Matisse Thybulle

Matisse Thybulle is a good two-way guard who would fit really well in Memphis. He is an elite defender so he will have the defensive mindset that they’ve played with for years, but he also has the offensive skill needed for him to help them improve on that end of the floor.

Maybe the Grizzlies shouldn’t go after a defensive minded guard, but getting an elite wing defender who can match up against the top guards in the NBA could be very beneficial. His offense will need to improve, but he should have a successful career solely because of his defense.

This past season he averaged 9.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 3.5 blocks, and 2.2 steals per game. He is able to impact the game in so many ways and when you’re drafting an older player that’s what you want them to be able to do.

His three-point shooting percentage was a bit concerning as he made just 31% of his shots from beyond the arc which is well below his 36% career average. If he can get it back up to 36% at the next level that will be a big boost to his game.

He has a chance to become a very good two-way player and with his elite defensive potential, he could become an All-NBA type defender. He was able to make a lot of plays on the defensive end in college and that should translate to the next level.

With the length and athleticism, he has he should be able to be a good offensive player in transition. He is a solid scorer off of the dribble and with the extra spacing he’ll have at the next level he should be able to help out at least some on the offensive end.

The Grizzlies do need more scoring, but getting a truly elite defender might even be the better option. They need to find players they know can be good pros and help them for the future and Thybulle is just that.

All five of these players are very good in a variety of ways and they have done enough at the college level to show they can be good pros. They will be good players at the next level wherever they end up.
